Tour of the Central Powerhouse

Dec 13, 2020 | Pawa Atunmankunytjaku

Whilst out on the APY Lands, we were privileged to have a tour of the Central Powerhouse at Umuwa.

This was extremely educational, especially to those of us that have lived on communities previously and remembered the old tin shed that enclosed a generator for each community!

We also got to see the site of the new solar farm which is currently under construction.

When completed, the upgraded Central Powerhouse will comprise 3 megawatts of solar photovoltaic panels and 1 megawatt of battery storage capacity, and will deliver 4.4 gigawatt hours of clean energy and reduce the amount of diesel used by 1 million litres per annum.

We hope to take the Anangu Energy Education Workers (EEW’s) on a tour of the Central Powerhouse as part of their training in March. This will help the workers have a greater understanding of how electricity is made and how it travels to the communities.

Money Mob recently partnered with the Central Desert Regional Council (CDRC) to deliver information sessions to aged care residents in Atitjere, Ti Tree, Wilora, Willowra, Laramba, Yuelamu and Lajamanu.

Alongside the residents, staff and carers had a chance to learn skills in financial literacy, saving goals, debt, financial abuse, humbug and making informed decisions when spending.

We provide practical financial literacy training services for individuals to gain confidence and competence in essential financial life skills.
