Energy Education Worker Training

Apr 28, 2021 | Pawa Atunmankunytjaku

On Saturday 17 April, the Pawa Atunmankunytjaku team headed out across the APY Lands to pick up workers from every community and take them to the Umuwa Trade Training Centre for a week of paid training.

On Sunday as the workers arrived, they were very happy with their accommodation and started to slowly mix with one another. By the late afternoon everyone had arrived and settled into their accommodation, looking forward to their evening meal and attending training on Monday.

Training commenced at 9am on Monday with everyone ready to go! Over the next five days, we covered a number of topics to prepare our workers for the task ahead.

This included why the changes are happening, where electricity comes from and what uses electricity in the home, how it is measured and how to work out how much electricity an appliances uses. We discussed climate change, the impacts paying for power could have on people, teamwork and confidentiality in the work place.

Throughout the week we played a number of fun games with prizes from Adelaide and Port Adelaide AFL teams and on Thursday we went on a tour of the Central Power House (read more here).

On Friday, we presented the workers with a certificate of completion and their uniform. Please check out some of the great photos below!

We then set off to take the workers back to their communities to spread the word on what they have learnt.  This time, the vehicles were full of chatter and laughter compared to the pickup a week earlier!

A big thank you to Uniting Communities who helped deliver the training and organised the great prizes. Thank you to Mark at the Umuwa Trade Training Centre for looking after us during our stay.
