Power Charging Begins in Amata

Amata community began paying for power on Tuesday 16 August 2022.

As with the other communities in the APY Lands that had already started paying, we spent a week in Amata to help the community with the transition.

On Monday, we visited every house in the community to drop off their meter cards and welcome packs, collect contact details and stick information stickers in the meter boxes.

Being such a large community, it took us a long time to get to every house. By mid-afternoon, word had gotten out in the community and we had lots of people coming up to us, worried that we wouldn’t get to their house in time!

Luckily, we managed to visit every house and drop off the meter cards before the sun went down.

On Wednesday, we held a community BBQ to say thank you and to give Anangu an opportunity to ask us any questions they may have.

By the end of the week only 5 households had not received their meter cards as they were not in community that week.

Money Mob recently partnered with the Central Desert Regional Council (CDRC) to deliver information sessions to aged care residents in Atitjere, Ti Tree, Wilora, Willowra, Laramba, Yuelamu and Lajamanu.

Alongside the residents, staff and carers had a chance to learn skills in financial literacy, saving goals, debt, financial abuse, humbug and making informed decisions when spending.

We provide practical financial literacy training services for individuals to gain confidence and competence in essential financial life skills.
